Silver Falls

This two day autumn workshop visits ten waterfalls in the Oregon Cascade foothills near Silverton and Stayton. Twice in its life the State Park has been nominated for a National Park, and its no wonder, as the waterfalls are in an idyllic setting of crystal clear water flowing over a basalt cap rock. The softer sandstone from an ancient seabed beneath the basalt has been eroded away by water action. The precipitous waterfalls are accessed by short easy trails, some of which are routed behing the cascading water. Fall is the perfect time to photograph this area when Bigleaf Maples turn a rich saffron, and vibrant red Vine Maples grace the byways. Sturdy tripods are a must for those long exposures, as is a reliable digital SLR. We can even experiment overlaying waterfalls in camera with multiple exposures.
